Privacy Policy
The short version
Placie lets you share your latest known location with people you choose.
- Each direction is your choice. You choose whether to share, with whom, and for how long. Receiving someone's location does not share yours.
- Connections require approval. The inviter reviews the person who accepted before either person's chosen sharing begins.
- One latest point. The current personal sharing service replaces your previous location when a newer fix arrives; it does not build a location history.
- No advertising or data sales. Placie has no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, and we do not sell your data.
- Account deletion is in the app. Deletion removes your account data from the active service. Security logs and backup copies have separate retention.

This policy covers Placie for iOS and Android and the service at placie.net and location.placie.net. Contact support@placie.net with questions about your data.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address, display name, account identifiers, and the authentication records needed to sign you in. Email sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and work once.
- Location while sharing: latitude, longitude, recording time, and, when available, accuracy, speed, direction, and battery level. Approximate permission produces an approximate location. Background location permission lets your phone send updates when Placie is not on screen.
- Connections and choices: invitations, the people you connect with, each person's sharing choice and expiry, and removed connection records. A pending connection shows the accepting account's name and email so the inviter can review who accepted.
- Place alerts: the place name, coordinates, radius, arrival or departure choice, and approval and trigger state. The person being located must approve an alert while sharing with its requester.
- Device and service information: device identifiers, platform, app and OS versions, push notification tokens, and operational and security records needed to run the service and limit misuse.
We do not collect your address book, Wi-Fi network names, Bluetooth identifiers, or fitness sensor data.
Who receives the information
Your location is available to a person only while you have an approved connection and an active sharing choice for that person. Invitation links do not grant location access by themselves. Old group membership does not grant personal sharing access.
Placie stores locations in readable form on its servers so it can deliver them to your chosen recipients; location sharing is not end-to-end encrypted. Traffic between the apps and the service uses TLS. Hosting and email providers process the information needed to operate the service, and Apple or Google handles notification delivery for your device. Notification messages can include a person's name and an approved place's name.
Maps and place names: Maps load from Apple on iPhone and OpenStreetMap on Android. Map requests reveal the area being viewed and network information, such as your IP address, to the provider. On iPhone, Placie also sends coordinates to Apple to look up nearby place names. See Apple Maps & Privacy and the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
On Android, Placie uses the geocoding service available on your device for address and place searches and to display place names. Placie passes your entered search text or the coordinates of the location being described to that service. The service depends on your device and may send the lookup over the network to its provider. That provider's privacy policy applies.
When you open directions or a place in a maps app, Placie passes the destination coordinates to that app and may include a label, such as a person's name. On iPhone this is Apple Maps. Android opens a compatible maps app, with a Google Maps web fallback for directions. The map provider's privacy policy applies, including the Google Privacy Policy when you use Google Maps.
Stopping sharing and keeping data
Stopping with one person removes that person's access after the server confirms the change. Other people you are still sharing with keep their access. A temporary share expires on the server even if you do not reopen the app.
If you stop while offline, the phone stops sending updates and retries the stop when it connects. The previously uploaded location can remain visible under the existing permission until the server receives the stop or that permission expires.

Database backups have separate infrastructure retention and are not erased immediately by account deletion. Backup copies and security logs do not provide location access through the app. Contact support with questions about retained copies of your data.
Deleting your account
Open Settings on iPhone, or your account menu on Android, and choose Delete account. After confirmation and a successful server response, your account, connections, location, place alerts, invitations, authentication records, and devices are removed from the active service. If you cannot use the app, email support@placie.net from your account's email address. See Delete account for the steps and retained-copy details.
Children
Placie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact support so we can delete it.
